Help, I'm being promoted (again)!
Organizational changes often bring new leaders into place. Those who are promoted are not always happy about the change. Sometimes, as soon as you finally get your own team and everything is running smoothly, you are recognized for your efforts and find yourself ushered into a bigger challenge. You cannot refuse to accept it because future promotions will be denied you.
What do you do in order to be pleased about the situation?
Three possibilities:
Compare your situation with a colleague who did not fare so well. That can be comforting and will enable you to look at the sunny side of things.
Make a counter deal with yourself: I will do it, but I will also fulfill a desire that I have been carrying around for a long time. For example, to go mountain climbing regularly or to take guitar lessons. That will take energy out of your irritation which you can use to fulfill something really important to you.
Do not do anything. Be curious about how the change can influence your life in a positive way. The mere acceptance that something positive can come out of it will help you discover what that is. If you do not look for the positive effects, the probability of them being there is reduced – just like when looking for mushrooms.
Wishing you an interesting time!
